About The Show

Weirdly Helpful (formerly The Best Advice Show) is a short, weekly infusion of delightful, unexpected and effective ways to make life slightly and sometimes profoundly better. In each episode a different contributor offers an odd experiment, a silly ritual, a curious practice that you’ll find weirdly helpful. Stuff like howling when you're despondent, eating oranges in the shower and flushing your adversary down the toilet (metaphorically)!

Contributors include Hanif Abdurraqib, Mike Mills, someone who howls like a wolf when they're lonely, Sarah Polley, Katie Crutchfield from Waxahatchee, someone who likes eating popcorn without their hands, Yung Pueblo, Gretchen Rubin,  Merrill Garbus from Tune-Yards, Ann Friedman, adrienne maree brown, Lulu Miller from Radiolab, someone who hums on elevators, Cassandra Jenkins, someone who flushes their psychic trespassers down the toilet, Mark Bittman, someone who started a quarter-cake club with her neighbors, Zak's wife, child, best friends and YOU (tell Zak what you find weirdly helpful at 844-935-2378).

Zak Rosen is the host and creator of Weirdly Helpful. He also co-hosts Slate's parenting show, Care and Feeding and he co-created and produces Pregnant Pause and How To Survive the End of the World.

A veteran public radio producer and reporter (Michigan Public! Detroit Public Radio!
